Italy 2 Lire 1923 to 1935
Italy 2 Lire 1923 to 1935

Well, that's cool, Kacie. 1927 is a *good date* for this coin. The Italian 2 lire from 1923 to 1935 was minted in nickel and in large quantities during the early years, but, as time went on, mintage got lower and lower. When mintage gets lower, values go up. However, in Kacie's case, the spots, stains and scratches on the coin will work against value.

DO NOT CLEAN YOUR COIN. CLEANING RUINS VALUE.

Some catalog values are:

2 LIRE 1923 AND 1924
worn: $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: $3
well preserved: $20
fully uncirculated: $100

2 LIRE 1925

fully uncirculated: $150

2 LIRE 1926

After 1927, only 50 coins were made each year. If you happen to have one of those in uncirculated condition, the catalogs say $1000.

These are all catalog values. Actual values will be lower. Be sure to read our Terminology page.

The bound rods and axe head is called a fasces. It is a symbol of strength and unity.

Comments

I have a peculiar 2 lira 1939 coin but the strange thing is that it's obv/rev is defaced with a letter P punch mark. Wonder what this signifies. - lawrence1947
I have not heard of such a 'P' punch, but it could be most anything. Defaced coins are generally shunned by collectors except in a few cases, like 'chop marks' described on this page [Press Here] and government-issued counterstamped coins described on this page [Press Here]. - CoinQuest (Paul)
