Philippines 1 Centavo 1903 to 1944
Philippines 1 Centavo 1903 to 1944

These are nice old coins, Pam. Back in these times, the Philippines was under US administration, and coins were minted by the United States for use there - both in San Fransisco (the S mint mark) and Manila (the M or no mint mark).

Some of the older dates of these coins have decent collectible value, especially as condition improves. For common dates, the catalogs report the following approximate values:

worn: less than $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: $2
well preserved: $5
fully uncirculated: $25

Coins dated 1944S are very common, and the catalogs report the following values for the 1944S centavo.

worn: less than $1
average circulated: less than $1
well preserved: less than $1
almost uncirculated: $1
fully uncirculated: $3
brilliant uncirculated: $12

Some coins were minted in smaller amounts and are worth more. The dollar amount after the year given below is for coins in average circulated condition.

1908S (S over S): $25 US Dollars catalog value for average circulated coins
1909S: $16
1915S: $40
1916S: $12
1917S (7 over 6): $40
1918S (large S): $150
1920S: $8

The values supplied on this page only apply to coins free of any problems like cleanings, stains, holes, nicks or gouges. Be sure to check out the 'Important Terminology' page on the top left to properly interpret these catalog values.

I have a 1914 1 centavo with no mint mark in well preserved condition. What is it worth? - Roger Mendoza Jr.
Roger Mendoza Jr. please read the text upper. - CoinQuest (Andrei)

Hi, I have 50 pieces of that exact coin. Some of them are dated 1944 and some 1932. Some of them have mint marks and some are in perfect and preserved condition. I'm really interested to sell them. Please help me sell them and I actually have more than 50, hundreds of them and they are kept in a bottle. Please help me.

Hi Ronald, you might have the best luck listing them on eBay. You are more than welcome to create a free ad on CoinQuest (click on 'Buy and Sell Coins). Your local coin shop may have some interest, depending on their experience buying and selling world coins. But a dealer will give you less than a collector will for these coins. - CoinQuest (Todd)

Does the value of the coin go down in value if there is a little pin hole drilled through it? Though I think I will know the answer to that? - Matt Hensley
Yes, it lowers the value considerably. Holed coins are damaged and much less desirable to most collectors. - CoinQuest (Todd)
