Things were rough in France during the late 1700s. Monarchies oppressed the people, the country went into bankruptcy, and the French Revolution shook all of Europe. This all happened before Napoleon took over in 1799.
With the government in shambles, certain entrepreneurs took it upon themselves to issue money. The Monneron Brothers were such entrepreneurs and they are the ones who struck your coin on a steam-powered coining press.
In fact, since it was not issued by a recognized government, your specimen is a token, not a coin. But the denomination, 5 sols, is a valid French denomination for the period.
CoinQuest thanks NapoleonicMedals.org for the use of their image of this beautiful piece.

Requester description: 1792 oblong circle on front, showing what looks like soldiers standing and saluting (?) in front of a person seated, holding up a tablet or proclimation.says 14 juillet,1790.vivre libres on left side, ou mourir on right side.reverse is worn, but can read some of the words with naked eye.if you need all of that I will send it too, but I have a feeling this is just not a valuable coin, but want to know for sure.
