Germany 1 Reichsmark 1933 to 1939
Germany 1 Reichsmark 1933 to 1939

You are right, Paula. The 1 reichsmarks are made of nickel and take a back seat to the spiffier, silver, 2 and 5 reichmarks. There are a few decent dates in the 1 reichsmark series. Most dates follow this pattern of value:

worn: $2 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $4
well preserved: $10
fully uncirculated: $20

Some dates and mint marks are worth quite a bit less than the 'nominal' values above. These are:

which are worth less than $10 in fully uncirculated condition.

Other dates and mint marks are worth quite a bit more than the 'nominal' values above. These are:

1933G: $90
1936E, F, G, J: $150
1938G, J: $150
1939B: $250
1939E, F, J: $120
1939G: $350

where the values after the dates and mint marks are for fully uncirculated coins.

Use our Important Terminology page to convert these catalog values to actual buy and sell values.

Requester description: 1937 I am going thru my deceased father's coins and found a 1937 1 reichsmark. It's in really good quality. I has a eable on one side and has a 'E' mint marking under the eagle. I can't find much online about the 1 reichsmark, only the 2 and the 5 and I haven't been able to determine why. Was the 1 reichsmark not in general circulation? It has an eagle on the back and inscriptions DEUTFCHES REICH GEMEINNURZ VUR EIGENNUTZ

Hi Paula, 1 Reichsmark coins from 1933 to 1939 were minted in considerably low quantity due to reasons unknown(or only known to Reich). These were minted right after Hitler assumed power . These were in general circulation, but are kinda rare to come by these days. - Preston
