Great Britain Stuart Royal Farthing Tokens 1360 to 1650
The House of Stuart is a European royal house founded by Robert II of Scotland during the late 14th century. They subsequently held the position of the Kings of England, Ireland, and Great Britain. The inscription on Mel's coin, CAROLVS D G MAG BRIT FRAN ET HIB REX expands to 'King Charles I (CAROLVS, sometimes CARO) by the Grace of God (Dei Gratia, D G) King (REX) of Great Britain (MAG BRIT), France (FRAN) and Hibernia (Ireland, HIB).'
These farthing tokens were also minted by King James I, where the inscription IACO replaces CAROLVS. James ruled from 1603 to 1625 and Charles ruled from 1625 to 1649. Even though the coins have no dates, we get a good idea of when they were minted by the name of the king they bear.

These tokens, old, rare, and very interesting, are surprisingly inexpensive. The coin in our secondary picture is in superb condition, yet it sold recently for only 95 US dollars.
