Egypt 2, 5, 10, and 20 Piastres 1916 and 1917
Egypt 2, 5, 10, and 20 Piastres 1916 and 1917

These are neat-looking coins. And they carry decent numismatic (coin collector) value if they have good eye appeal, like the one in our picture. Both 1916AD and 1917AD dates are about the same in value. Here are some approximate catalog values:

2 PIASTRES (0.075 troy ounces silver)
worn: $3 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $8
well preserved: $12
fully uncirculated: $25

5 PIASTRES (0.188 troy ounces silver)
worn: $5 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $10
well preserved: $22
fully uncirculated: $40

10 PIASTRES (0.375 troy ounces silver)
worn: $10 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $20
well preserved: $45
fully uncirculated: $100

20 PIASTRES (0.750 troy ounces silver)
worn: $25 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $35
well preserved: $90
fully uncirculated: $180

Some of these coins are of the 'no inner circle' variety, as shown in our secondary picture. Usually this means very little to the value of the coin, except in the case of the 20 piastres where an uncirculated coin catalogs at $300 if it has no inner circle.

For more collecting enjoyment, sometimes these coins are found with Al Hejaz countermarks, as shown in our tertiary picture with the shaded background. The countermark signifies circulation in the small Kingdom of Nejd and Hejaz which existed from 1926 to 1932. Coins with such countermarks are rare, so add at least $50 to the catalog value if you have one.
