Poland Warsaw 1/3 Talara and 1 Talar 1810 to 1814
Poland Warsaw 1/3 Talara and 1 Talar 1810 to 1814

These old silver coins come from the Grand Duchy of Warszawa (Varsov, Warsaw) with the portrait of Friedrich August I, King of Saxony. They are rare coins and command good value, especially in well preserved condition.

Two denominations carry the same inscriptions and patterns, but with different sizes:

1/3 TALARA: 28 mm diameter, 0.174 troy ounces silver
TALAR: 39 mm diameter, 0.531 troy ounces silver

Here are approximate catalog values:

1/3 TALARA
worn: $35 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $180
well preserved: $350

TALARA
worn: $100 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $500
well preserved: $1000
talars dated 1811 are more rare; double these values

Requester description: 1812 First side: FRID ∙AVG ∙REX SAX∙ DVX∙ VARSOV. The inscription is above a portrait of a man, facing write. He has long hair, tied by a ribbon. The picture is quite worn, but still likable. The inscription above is entirely visible and not as worn as the picture. Other side: 1812; I.B.; TALAR. This side is well preserved. There is a crown, placed upon a coat of arms and an eagle (the latter two are enclosed in a circle). The crown splits the year 1812 in to two numbers, 18 and 12. On the side, two branches encircle the coat of arms. At the root of the two branches (just below the coat of arms), there are the initials I.B. Below the picture, there is the inscription TALAR.
