Italy Venice Armata and Morea Soldo and Gazzetta 1688 to 1692
Armata and Morea were names of regions of Greece during the Middle Ages. The winged lion on the front represents Saint Mark of the Bible. These coins come in two denominations: 1 soldo and 2 soldi (a I or II under the line), and 2 soldi were called a gazzetta.
There are more of these coins around than one might think. You can find them on eBay and at most world coin dealers. As with all coins of the period, each coin stands on its own merits of eye appeal and overall desirability. Some very approximate values are:
worn: $30 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $100
well preserved: $220
, Genre: Central Europe North South
