Great Britain Farthing and Half Penny 1694 to 1700
Great Britain Farthing and Half Penny 1694 to 1700

King William and Queen Mary ruled England, Scotland and Ireland as co-regents from 1688 until 1694. Farthings and half pennies bore their likeness with Britannia (symbol of virtue and strength) on the reverse. The two denominations look the same, except for size. If you can find a nice example of these old beauties, it will be worth some money. Catalog values give a rough idea of value below.

FARTHING (21 mm diameter)
worn: $30 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $400
well preserved: $1400

HALF PENNY (28 mm diameter)
worn: $30 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $400
well preserved: $1800

The coin in our picture comes from Baldwin's in London. You rarely see them this nice. CoinQuest thanks Baldwin's for use of their coin photo.

The images below give a little more insight into the value of these coins. Coin A is pretty well worn. It sold for $60 US dollars in a 2012 auction. Coin B is much better preserved. It sold for $750 US dollars in a 2010 auction.

We would be re-miss if we did not mention our favorite web site about farthings. It's found at (where else?) AboutFarthings.co.uk.
