Medal: Great Britain Baptist Missionary Society Jubilee 1842
Back in ancient Bible times there were Sabbath Years every seven years when farmers gave rest to the farmland. Then, every seven Sabbath years, 50 years total, there were Jubilee Years when debts were cancelled and families were re-united.
You shall thus consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim a release through the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you, and each of you shall return to his own property, and each of you shall return to his family. Leviticus 25:10
In 1792, in a house at Kettering, England, the Baptist Missionary Society was formed to spread the Christian message around the world. This medallion was likely made during that jubilee year, 1842. A similar medallion showing the Kettering house was made in 1892, the 100 year anniversary.
The 50 year medals seem to be somewhat more rare than the 100 year medals, but neither medal is particularly valuable. Here are some typical catalog values averaged over both medals. Add a little value if you have the 50 year medal and subtract a little value if you have the 100 year medal.
