Great Britain Crown 1818 to 1820
Great Britain Crown 1818 to 1820

It's a crown, Guy. Big, bold, and beautiful, the coin in our picture comes from Künker GmbH & Co. in Osnabrück, Germany where is sold for 350 euros, or about $460 US dollars, in a 2013 auction.

The catalogs call out values like this for all dates:

worn: $75 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $160
well preserved: $800
fully uncirculated: $1500

If you have a nice looking specimen of this coin, take it to a knowledgeable collector or professional coin dealer for an in-person inspection. There are some special overdate varieties of this coin that are worth much more than the values listed above.

As always on CoinQuest, we quote catalog values. These are inflated values that must be adjusted to estimate actual buy and sell values. See our Important Terminology page for more info.

Requester description: 1819 It's a George III coin and I think from it's dimensions it's a £5 coin. on the head side it says Georgius III D.G. Britanniarum Rex F D 1819 and on the reverse it has St George killing the dragon. There is also writing on the edge of the coin. Not sure if this comes into the Sovereign coin description but it is NOT gold. It's worn but still all visible. £5

Thank you for your thorough description/valuation. I took this coin into a coin valuation shop and was told $20.00 NZ so rather a different price.
It would have to be in really crummy condition to be worth only $20. If the coin is damaged, e.g., scratches, stains, cleanings, nicks, gouges, holes, etc. then it could be worth only $20. - CoinQuest (Paul)
