Germany Hannover 1/24th Thaler 1834 to 1846
Germany Hannover 1/24th Thaler 1834 to 1846

This is a silver 1/24th thaler from the old German city of Hannover. The prancing horse appears on most coins from the old city and Brunswick L√ľneburg.

The coin in our picture comes from Westfalische Auktionsgesellschaft in Arnsberg, Germany where it sold at auction for 52 euros (about $68 US dollars) during a 2007 auction. It would sell for more today.

Here is what the coin catalogs say about these neat old pieces:

worn: $10 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $30
well preserved: $70
fully uncirculated: $150
coins dated 1835B, 1836B, 1837B, and 1842S are more common; divide these values by two

The values above are catalog values. They must be adjusted to reflect actual buy and sell values. To make such adjustments, see our Terminology page.
