Romania 100000 Lei 1946
Romania 100000 Lei 1946

Nice coin, Brian. I like the pattern, don't you?

These coins were issued by Romania just before reform coinage entered the nation with new patterns in 1947. Two years later, the People's Republic of Romania issued coins with yet another collection of coin patterns.

The large (37 mm) 100000 lei coins of 1946 were minted in 70 percent silver, and this gives the coins a Base Value (BV) equal to 0.563 times the current price of silver. In other words, each 100000 lei coin contains 0.563 troy ounces of silver and, when multiplied by the current value of silver ($21.84 US dollars per troy ounce today; tomorrow it will be different; look it up on you get the BV of $12.30 US dollars.

For coins in excellent shape, collectors will pay more than BV to add one to their collections. Here are typical catalog values:

worn: BV
average circulated: BV + $5
well preserved: BV + $10
fully uncirculated: BV + $25 approximate catalog value

Please be sure to read our Important Terminology page to understand how catalog values work.
