Token: Great Britain (Conder ) Hull Halfpenny 1791
Token: Great Britain (Conder ) Hull Halfpenny 1791

A man named James Conder undertook the somewhat daunting task of identifying, organizing, and cataloging a large set of privately issued tokens used in Great Britain during the late 1700s and early 1800s. There were not enough regular government-issued coins to support commerce in sparsely populated regions, so various individuals took it upon themselves to produce tokens.

Assembling a large set of Conder tokens would be great fun for the numismatist (coin collector). Since they are reasonably priced, the set would not break the bank.

This one is a 'Hull Halfpenny' issued, I believe, by Yorkshire. Prices fall in line with other Conder tokens:

worn: $10 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $15
well preserved: $50
fully uncirculated: $200

Damaged or cleaned tokens will be worth about zero. See our Terminology page for an explanation of catalog values.
