New Zealand 2 Dollars 1990 to 2009

New Zealand makes a lot of coins with a lot of interesting wild life, and the wildlife attracts a lot of collectors. This 2 dollar coin has a K?tuku, white heron on the back, with the reigning British monarch on the front: Elizabeth II. The white heron or great egret is a cosmopolitan bird and is found worldwide in tropical and temperate regions. K?tuku have always been rare in New Zealand and they have gained almost mythical status.

how rare is the 1997 coin as centre line is smaller than other years so wont work in vending machines or gaming machines does this also affect price of that year - clinton
The 1997 mintage was recalled, but many are left in circulation. At this time collector pricing is not affected by the recall, but it may be in the future. If I had a 1997 coin in uncirculated condition, I'd put it aside for the children or grandchildren. By the time they are adults, the value may be higher than the other non-recalled dates. - CoinQuest (Paul)
