Chile 1/4 Real 1790 to 1792
Chile 1/4 Real 1790 to 1792

Neat coin, AndyP84 -- Obviously you know, but most CoinQuest readers will not know that the small 'o-over-S' mark near the date stands for the Spanish mint at Santiago, Chile. These were minted only in 1790, 1791 and 1792, with the legend changing slightly in the latter years. They are not easy to find, so numismatic (coin collector) value is quite good.

worn: $50 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $125
well preserved: $200

The coin in our picture is from renowned numismatist Daniel Sedwick who specializes in old Spanish colonial coins. Thanks, Daniel, for use of your coin image. Daniel's coin sold for $155 US dollars during a 2012 auction.

BTW, we have a page dedicated to the ins-and-outs of Spanish Colonials, a fascinating subject. Read our page at this link [Press Here].
