Danish West Indies 3 Cents 1859

Discovered by Columbus in 1493, the Virgin Islands were controlled by Denmark until the United States bought them in 1917 for their strategic value in protecting the Panama Canal. The old coins with Frederick VII are all quite valuable when in good condition. For this 3 cent coin (0.021 troy ounces of silver), catalog values run like this:

worn: $4 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $20
well preserved: $35
fully uncirculated: $50

Convert these catalog values to actual buy and sell values using the concepts shown on our Terminology page.
