Indonesia has minted a lot of really cool coins since gaining independence in the late 1960s. Patterns include images of local wildlife and this one, with the great bird of paradise, tops the charts. It would be great fun assembling a collection of Indonesian coins 1970 to date, and it would not be expensive, as they are all low-value:
50 RUPIAH 1971:
worn: less than $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: less than $1
well preserved: $1
fully uncirculated: $3
These coins are like all modern coins found in circulation. They contain no gold or silver, and are worth face value or a few US dollars if in uncirculated condition.
