Germany (Schleswig Holstein) Dreiling, Sechsling, and Schilling Coinage 1787 to 1801
Germany (Schleswig Holstein) Dreiling, Sechsling, and Schilling Coinage 1787 to 1801

These coins come from the old German State of Schleswig Holstein, located in the northern sections of the loosely federated German States and strongly influenced by Denmark. King Christian VII of Denmark ruled Schleswig Holstein between 1784 and 1808, and his crowned CR VII monogram indicates 'Christian Rex' or 'King Christian.'

A number of different denominations of the period use the same CR VII monogram, but with different legends, as follows:

1 DREILING: copper, 1787
1 SECHSLING: copper, 1787
2 SECHSLING: silver, 1787 - 1800
2 1/2 SCHILLING, silver, 1787 - 1801
5 SCHILLING, silver, 1787 - 1801
10 SCHILLING, silver, 1787 - 1796

Looking at the catalog values of these coins, dates matter little. In general the later dates (around 1800) are a tad more valuable than the earlier dates due, no doubt, to the lower mintages of the later dates. In the listings below we report values for the early dates. You can add small amounts for the later date coins.

To reach values such as these, coins must have pleasing eye appeal and be free of all problems such as cleaning, scratches, stains, spots, nicks, and gouges. See our Important Terminology page for converting catalog values (shown above) to actual buy and sell values.
