Russia Siberia Kopeks 1764 to 1781
Russia Siberia Kopeks 1764 to 1781

There are 100 kopeks in one rouble and your coin with the foxes comes from Siberia, the vast, expansive part of northeast Russia. The coins in this series were minted in 1, 2, 5, and 10 kopek denominations, with the only major difference between them the size, as follows:

1 kopek: 24 mm diameter
2 kopeks: 29 mm
5 kopeks: 38 mm
10 kopeks: 47 mm

Catalog values for these coins varies strongly with condition (amount of wear) and weakly with denomination (1, 2, 5, 10 kopeks).

In average circulated condition, like the coin in the pciture, figure a catalog value of $100 US dollars for the 1 and 2 kopek denominations, $150 for 5 kopeks, and $200 for 10 kopeks.

In well preserved condition these coins approximately double in value, and in worn condition, the value divides in half.

The 1 kopek coins dated 1764, 1766 and 1767 without the K M mintmark are so rare that the catalogs do not even report their values.

The 1 kopek coins dated 1767 with the K M mintmark is also rare, and catalogs at $140 when worn, exceeding $350 in value when well preserved.

These are catalog values for coins with no problems like scratches, stains, gouges, or cleanings. Be sure you understand what catalog value means by clicking to our Terminology page.
