US Massachusetts Janus Copper (Counterfeit) 1776
US Massachusetts Janus Copper (Counterfeit) 1776

Hi Alessa -- Fortunately for us, there's CoinTalk, an excellent coin web site with lots of knowledgable people. Click on the CoinTalk link in the first sentence to see an interesting thread about your coin.

The word 'copy' is a dead give-away. It is illegal in the US to make or own a replica of a US coin unless it is stamped with the word 'copy'. But you can see in our picture that the word 'copy' does not appear. Unfortunately, this does not guarantee authenticity. The picture here comes from Abraham, another CoinQuest patron. It does not look like a genuine coin to me. Fake coins are worth zero.

You can also see in the CoinTalk thread a reference to Breen catalog weight. Breen was a tremendous numismatist who compiled detailed catalogs of just about everything. Unless your coin weighs precisely 5.26 grams, it's a fake.
