Netherlands Antilles 5 Cents 1957 to 1985
The Netherlands Antilles has been sporting square coinage for a while. Most of their coins are round, but the 5 cents is square, the 50 cents and the 300 gulden also.
Patterns on the 5 cents changed over the years, but the basic idea -- a square coin with a big 5 -- stays the same. Values of all these coins are low, ranging from less than $1 US dollar for worn coins to a few dollars for uncirculated specimens. The issues from 1957 to 1970 (the example shown in the picture) run into the 10s of dollars for uncirculated. Coins that look similar to this one, but with a different inscription, are generally more valuable. Click to this CoinQuest page for more details.
