Mexico Oaxaca 1/2, 1, 2, and 8 Reales 1811 to 1814
Mexico Oaxaca 1/2, 1, 2, and 8 Reales 1811 to 1814

Hi Checo -- That bow and arrow design is a pretty good give-away that you have a coin from the insurgents in Oaxaca province minted during the Mexican War of Independence. The 'SUD' refers to leader General Morelos.

These coins come in 1/2, 1, 2, and 8 reales denominations, as noted by annotations MR, 1R, 2R, and 8R respectively. The higher the denomination, the larger the coin. Not all coins have the ornate decorations shown in our picture. Some coins were minted in copper, others in silver.

The list below gives approximate catalog values for coins without problems. Since Checo identified his coin with 'repulsive' eye appeal, it will be essentially worthless; only coins in good shape, like the one in our picture, qualify for values listed below.

Requester description: 1813 Difficult to describe, however it appears to have a bow and arrow on one side followed with patters on the outer surface. On the other side it seems to also have some numbers beginning with the year 1813 possibly 1814. On that same side it has some initials such as M. and 8. R.
