Iran Rials: 25, 50, 75, 100, 200, 750, 1000, and 2000 1971
Please bear with a story before we get to the appraisal.
Our early version of the CoinQuest web site did not use our comprehensive questionnaire. We simply asked people to describe their coin. This worked ok most of the time, but sometimes people would sent inquiries like this: 'I have a coin. It says In God We Trust. How much is it worth?' Needless to say, Jenn is the antithesis to such people. Thanks, Jenn, for the thorough description of your coin.
In 1971, at the 2500th anniversary of the Persian Empire, Iran issued a bunch of rial coins in gold and silver. Many of the coins are proof. There are a few uncirculated (non-proof) specimens. These coins today are worth a few percent over their melt value. That is, they are worth roughly the amount that their precious metal is worth.
To figure the melt value, first look up the price of gold or silver on the Internet. My favorite site for this is kitco.com. Then multiply the troy ounces of gold or silver in your coin by the kitco value. This is the approximate value of your coin.
Here are the statistics for these coins. Use the precious metal content here for your melt calculations:
25 rials, 27 mm diameter, 0.241 troy ounces of silver
50 rials, 30 mm, 0.482 ounces silver
75 rials, 34 mm, 0.723 ounces silver
100 rials, 38 mm, 0.964 ounces silver
200 rials, 50 mm, 1.927 ounces silver
500 rials, 21 mm, 0.188 ounces gold
750 rials, 27 mm, 0.283 ounces gold
1000 rials, 30 mm, 0.377 ounces gold
2000 rials, 39 mm, 0.754 ounces gold
For instance, suppose you have Jenn's 200 rial coin. At this writing, the price of silver is about $18 US dollars per Troy ounce. So Jenn's melt value is 1.927 x 18 = $34.
With gold around $1100 per ounce, a 2000 rials would melt to about $830.
You can add a small dollar amount to the melt value if your coin is in superb shape. For the virtually perfect coin in our picture, I'd add perhaps $20 to account for the shear beauty and collectibility of the piece.

Requester description: 1971 This is a large coin, appearing to be silver. On the front it has a silhouette of a man facing left, in what seems to be a Royal jacket or maybe a uniform (based on the shoulder) behind him a silhouette of a woman with a tiara or crown on her head. There is no writing on the front. On the back there is a pattern that circles the entire coin that looks to me to be almost like flower pots connected by a ribbon? within that circle there is some writing at the top that I cannot write here because it is in a foreign language in symbols not on my keyboard and I can't read it to translate. Below that and pretty much center, is a male lion, body facing towards the left (with face turn forward towards you) standing on a line, holding a curved sword in his front right paw. Behind him seems to be a sun and directly above the sun is a crown? Just below the lion seems to be 2 words (not positive) in foreign writing. Directly under that is '200 RIALS', below that is 1971 with a small foreign symbols next to the year, that I assume is maybe a mint mark. This coin seems to me to look like one of those proof coins we all have, but this one is out of it's case and has some light scratches on it from being loose in someone's coin box for however long. It is also tarnished - evenly on the front, but the back tarnish is uneven and more 'rainbow' like. The edge is ridged like a US quarter would be.
