Look at the beautiful coin in our image. It comes from Westfälische Auktions Gesellschaft in Arnsberg, Germany. The coin has very little wear, and only a few distracting spots. (We'd all have a few distracting spots too, if we were born in 1876!) As such, it is a high quality collectible and worth a lot of money. WAG is selling this coin for 250 euros, about $320 US dollars.
Of course coins in worse shape will be worth less. Here are some typical catalog values for these coins:
worn: $15 US dollars catalog value
average circulated: $50
well preserved: $120
fully uncirculated (like our picture): $300
coins dated 1892 and 1898 are worth about one-half these values
worn: $20 US dollars catalog value
average circulated: $30
well preserved: $90
fully uncirculated (like our picture): $280
Use our Terminology page to convert these catalog values to actual values.
CoinQuest thanks WAG for use of their coin photo.
