Malaysia Straits Settlements 1/4, 1/2, and 1 Cent 1862
You present an interesting coin, sir or madam. It is not one you see very much. Your coin is from the Straits Settlements, now known as West Malaysia, with its major city Singapore, on the Malay Peninsula of Asia. In 1862 it was part of British India, hence the bust of Queen Victoria and the inscription India Straits.
The one cent coins are much more common than their smaller counterparts. The 1/4 and 1/2 cent coins carry the same design as the 1 cent coins except, of course, for the denomination on the reverse side. 1/4 CENT worn: $100 US dollars approximate catalog value average circulated: $300 well preserved: $600 fully uncirculated: $1000 1/2 CENT worn: $60 US dollars approximate catalog value average circulated: $150 well preserved: $350 fully uncirculated: $650 1 CENT worn: $15 US dollars approximate catalog value average circulated: $40 well preserved: $150 fully uncirculated: $500 Be sure you understand what the word 'catalog' means when it comes to coin values. Use the Important Terminology link at the upper left to find out.
