German States Bavaria Thaler 1871
This is a grand old thaler (pronouced like 'dollar' but with a 't') from the German State of Bavaria (Bayern). It was issued to celebrate the German victory in the Franco-Prussian War. The coin in our picture comes from Munzen Sann in Grasbrunn, Germany, where it is on sale for 175 euros (about $240 US dollars). Sann's coin is in such beautiful condition, it commands strong value. Most coins you see are not nearly as beautiful as this one.
