German States Bavaria Thaler 1871 This is a grand old thaler (pronouced like 'dollar' but with a 't') from the German State of Bavaria (Bayern). It was issued to celebrate the German victory in the Franco-Prussian War. The coin in our picture comes from Munzen Sann in Grasbrunn, Germany, where it is on sale for 175 euros (about $240 US dollars). Sann's coin is in such beautiful condition, it commands strong value. Most coins you see are not nearly as beautiful as this one.

The catalogs list this coin's value at various amounts of wear like this:

worn: $20 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $35
well preserved: $80
fully uncirculated: $120
