France Liard, 1/2 Sol, and 1 Sol (Louis XV) 1715 to 1774
France Liard, 1/2 Sol, and 1 Sol (Louis XV) 1715 to 1774

King Louis XV reigned in France from 1715 to 1774. The low-value copper coins minted were called liard, deniers, half sol, and sol. The liard, half sol, and sol carry patterns similar to Rick's coin. Sometimes Louis is facing left, sometimes right. Just about all these coins carry the same catalog values. Here is a run-down:

LIARD (22 mm diameter)
worn: $2 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $15
well preserved: $85

1/2 SOL (24 mm diameter)
worn: $2 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $25
well preserved: $120

SOL (28 mm diameter)
worn: $3 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $15
well preserved: $100

Some old French coins carry the 'boy head' of Louis XV. You can see an example at this CoinQuet link.
