Chile 8 Reales (Counterfeit) 1752
Sorry Rich23, this is a fake coin. Too bad. If it were real, the catalog value would be up in the $20,000 to $50,000 US dollar range. Wow!
The oS mint mark (large S under small o) indicated the Santiago, Chile mint for this Spanish colonial coin. Most of these that you see were minted in Mexico City (large M under small o). Our page on the oM coins appears at this link.
It takes years of hands-on experience to become a good coin collector. An experienced collector might detect the non-genuine appearance of this coin. But the real give-away is that the coin catalogs show that no 8 reales coins were minted at the Santiago mint for the year 1752. That kinda settles it.
There is an interesting thread over at Coin Community that addresses this particular fake. Fake coins are worth zero.
