Lebanon 10 Piastres 1900 to 1955
The Phoenician sailing ship is a popular symbol in modern Lebanon, and the fame of its cedar trees dates back to days of early history. 'The trees of the LORD are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted; Where the birds make their nests: as for the stork, the fir trees are her house.' (Psalms 104:16).
These coins are made of aluminum-bronze. The date is actually 1955. Some eastern Arabic numerals used in the Middle East resemble the western Arabic numerals used in America, but eastern 5's look like 0's, hence the confusion. Many Lebanese coins carry dates in both numeric systems.
Although modern, this coin is not easy to find in decent condition, and the collector value goes up accordingly. Here is a rough listing of value:
worn: less than $1 US dollar catalog value
average circulated: $1
well preserved (like our picture): $8
fully uncirculated: $25
