The link to the left is to a page that gives an estimated value for your coin. It is a 1840 Indian 1 Rupee coin issued under Queen Victoria.

I would say, if the coin hasn't been cleaned, it should be worth somewhere around $30-50, but to be more accurate, please upload a picture of the other side of the coin.

It looks to be in good condition, maybe in the middle of averagely circulated and well preserved.

Doubt this coin is counterfeit as forgers typically go after high priced items.

Thanks. So if it's a fake, it should be magnetic, right? Or not necessarily?

Attached other side of the coin. Please advise further on genuineness.

Thanks

I stay away from the topic of authenticating coins, so I advise waiting for someone else to give their opinion on the matter. Typically, your post should be seen by someone else in 1-2 days time.

If it is genuine, and in its current condition, it may be worth somewhere around $20-40.

Your one has the variate of a 'Divided legend', though I am not certain if it is any rarer. The first link is an example of this, where the words Queen is futhur down to the left side of the coin. The second link shows a slightly different style, where Queen is closer to the Victoria inscription.

Yo, Joshua ::: Face it. People want to hear your opinion on real/fake status of coins. You can't hide behind the 'I steer clear of authentication' much longer. Authenticating coins from Internet photos is almost impossible, but it is so sorely needed, the least you can do is offer your opinion. You have a lot more experience looking at coins than most people do. Just be sure your qualify your answer with 'this is my opinion, not a proven fact.'

This coin looks genuine to me. That is my opinion. -- Paul Richards, CoinQuest
