You're correct! Someone might mistake this for being from Thailand (very similiar language) but the three-headed elephant gives it away, and is the national animal of Laos. However it's very difficult for me to translate this, and given it has no denomination on it I would assume it's a token or souvenir of Laos.

It seems it may be an old, one (?) baht Thai coin that looks like bronze or copper but may even be silver. I enclose new pics of my coin. Perhaps it is a Laotian version (Thailand invaded Laos in 1779)? It is somewhat similar to a Thai one baht coin as per the post below.
