I believe it is a Kang Xi Tong Bao cash coin or Lo-han coin. You can read about these coins at the [coinquest] link to the left under Web Reference.

Original specimens of this coin were manufactured using a casting process around 1700AD. However, Donovan's coin has a mottled background which indicates it is a modern 'charm' and not a coin. As such, it is worth small amounts, maybe a few 10s of US cents.
