Bolivia issued these nice silver coins with the palm tree and llama pattern between 1853 and 1863. Denominations are 1/2, 1, 2, 4 and 8 soles, which are distinguishable by size and weight.

1/2 SOL (1853 to 1859): 16 mm diameter, 0.032 troy ounces silver
1/2 SOL (1859): 16 mm diameter, 0.028 troy ounces silver
1/2 SOL (1859 to 1863): 16 mm diameter, 0.038 troy ounces silver

1 SOL (1853 to to 1859): 19 mm diameter, 0.064 ounces silver
1 SOL (1859): 19 mm diameter, 0.054 ounces silver
1 SOL (1860 to 1863): 19 mm diameter, 0.073 ounces silver

2 SOLES (1853 to 1859): 26 mm diameter, 0.133 ounces
2 SOLES (1860 to 1863): 26 mm diameter, 0.131 ounces

4 SOLES (1853 to 1859): 31 mm diameter, 0.290 ounces
4 SOLES (1860): 31 mm diameter, 0.392 ounces

8 SOLES (1848 to 1859): 37 mm diameter, 0.784 ounces
8 SOLES (1859 to 1863): 37 mm diameter, 0.581 ounces

Values of these coins are not too shabby, especially in higher grades. Our listings on this page apply to coins with Bolivar on the front and a palm tree on the back. There are other similar coins, but they have a different kind of tree, without the wavy branches shown in our picture.

Some coins have a period after the word CONSTITUTION and this does not affect value strongly. There are coins with the word CONSTITUTION misspelled, and these are worth more. See below. Values apply to all dates unless noted.
