Medal US Texas Nickel 1970 to Date

Everything's bigger in Texas. To prove the point, small-sized nickel coins grow to giant-sized two ounce beauties, and their composition changes from poor-man's nickel to rich-man's silver. What a deal!

These coins come with many different inscriptions, but the Indian and buffalo seems to appear on all of them. Be sure to find inscriptions about silver content (2 troy ounces) and silver purity (0.999 fine). With these inscriptions you are reasonably sure to get a full two ounces of pure silver.

These novelty pieces are worth their weight in silver. At this writing, silver trades at $23 US dollars per troy ounce. Tomorrow it will be different, so look it up at kitco.com.

Multiply the dollars per ounce by two, and that gives the value of your coin. If you sell it to a dealer, expect to get a little less than silver value as dealer margin. If you sell it to a collector, he or she might be willing to pay a little more over silver value. In this case, for a single, coin 'a little less or a little more' might be 15 to 20 percent.
