Oman (Muscat and) 2, 3, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 Baisa and 1/4 and 1/2 Rial 1960 to Date

Muscat and Oman, the country at the southeastern part of the Arabian Peninsula, became Oman (alone) in 1970, when Sultan Sa'id bin Talmur was overthrown by his son, Qabus bin Sa'id. The coinage remained roughly unchanged through the transition.

These coins bear the emblem of Oman (a dagger in front of two crossed sword) on one side, the the numeric denomination on the other. They are made of copper, nickel, silver, and gold, although this page does not address the gold coins.

Dating uses Islamic (Hirji, AH) dates which are roughly 600 years earlier than Western (Gregorian, AD) dates, e.g.,

AH1380 = 1960AD
AH1430 = 2010AD

The denominations are whole numbers for baisa, and fractional numbers for rials.
