Great Britain Gigantic Wheel at Earls Court 1895 to 1906

Token Great Britain Gigantic Wheel at Earls Court 1895 to 1906

The Great Wheel was built for the Empire of India Exhibition at Earls Court, London, in the United Kingdom. Construction began in March 1894 and it opened to the public in 1895. The Gigantic Wheel was modeled on the original Ferris Wheel which was featured at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, US. These tokens were sold at the Wheel's exhibitions.

Catalog values for these tokens run like this:

worn: $5 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $10
well preserved: $15
fully uncirculated: $30

These values, like all catalog values, are simply guides to approximate pricing. Our Important Terminology page outlines how catalog values are linked to actual buy and sell values.

In the graphic to the right, two sample tokens (A) and (B) appear. Both tokens (A) and (B) are circulated tokens, but clearly the (A) token has less wear and more eye appeal than the (B) token. In normal circumstances, the (A) token would sell retail for $20 or so and the (B) token would sell retail for $3 or so.
