These coins from the old Austrian Empire were minted only in 1816. There are other Austrian coins and other denominations that look similar, but these coins do not carry the 1816 date. This page applies only to coins dated 1816.
Both 1/2 and 1 kreuzer coins are worth about the same, although the smaller denomination is substantially smaller in physical size. Collectors often seek one example of each type of coin, so to make a type set of early Austrian coins a collector would want to find one 1/2 kreuzer and one 1 kreuzer. Here are some typical catalog values:
worn: $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: $4
well preserved: $14
fully uncirculated: $45
Coins with A and B mint marks are more common, so their values would be slightly less than those shown. Similarly, if you have a E, G, O, or S mint mark, these are more rare and are slightly more valuable.
As always with CoinQuest, we are quoting catalog values. You must convert these values to actual buy and sell values using the ideas presented on our Terminology page.
The catalogs list half kreuzers with E and G mint marks as very rare, worth hundreds of dollars.
