Poland 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 Groszy and 1 Zloty 1949

Poland's coffers were not overflowing with riches after the second world war. In the post-war years, they minted coins with similar patterns in bronze as well as aluminum. The latter is a very light metal, and collectors rarely take kindly to these coins, which can almost feel like they are made of plastic covered in metallic paint. Here is the run-down:

1 GROSZ: Aluminum, 15 mm diameter
2 GROSZE: Aluminum, 16 mm
5 GROSZY: Aluminum and Bronze, 20 mm
10 GROSZY: Aluminum and Copper-Nickel, 18 mm
20 GROSZY: Aluminum and Copper-Nickel, 20 mm
50 GROSZY: Aluminum and Copper-Nickel, 23 mm
1 ZLOTY: Aluminum and Copper-Nickel, 25 mm

These coins all have an eagle on one side, and, except for the 1 zloty, they all have the denomination above a sprig on the other side. The 1 zloty has its face value pictured within a wreath.

Circulated coins are worth very little, less than 1 US dollar for all denominations 1 grosz to 1 zloty. A keen collector might pick up a circulated example with excetional eye-appeal for a couple US dollars.
