Token Philippines Anting Anting Talisman Amulet 1000AD to 1881
Anting-anting is a Filipino system of magic and sorcery that uses talismans, amulets and charms. There is a southeast Asian tradition of tribal jewelry where 'anting-anting' means 'ear pendant.' These charms are most commonly used by folk-believers as a repellent of disease, danger, and death. The dates are fictitious. They are usually made of non-precious metal, but silver examples can be found. Modern versions incorporate Christian and Masonic symbols. SN JOSE PATRIARCA probably alludes to St. Joseph the Patriarch. There are many patterns; a few patterns are shown below.
It is difficult to place a value on such items. To one practicing sorcery they are probably quite valuable. Base metal examples can be found around the web selling for a few US dollars. Silver amulets bring $20 or more, especially to practitioners and believers.
