The denomination of this coin is actually 6 1/4 centimes (un quart on reverse). It was issued only in the year 1850 and is quite difficult to find. The coin in our picture comes from Emporium Hamburg Munzhandelsgesellschaft mbH in Germany. It is in good shape and on sale for 95 euros (about $125 US dollars). There are some rim nicks which lower value, but the overall eye appeal is very pleasing, which keeps the value high. Most of these coins are worn and dark.
Here are approximate catalog values:
worn: $5 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $30
well preserved: $60
fully uncirculated: $300
You must apply the principles shown on our Terminology page to properly interpret these catalog values.
CoinQuest thanks Emporium Hamburg for use of their coin photo. It is a nice one.
