The coin in our picture comes from the collection of John Cross. It is a nice looking circulated coin. The wear and toning acquired over the years has left a darker background with lighter devices and inscriptions, giving the coin a wonderful eye appeal. Some collectors will not settle for anything less than fully uncirculated coins. Not me, and, apparently, not John. Circulated specimens can have a terrific look.
Value-wise, these old 5 cent pieces from Colombia follow roughly this progression of catalog values:
worn: $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: $2
well preserved: $5
fully uncirculated: $12
Use our Terminology page to convert these inflated catalog values to actual values.
