Jamaica 1, 5, 10, 20, and 25 Cents 1969 to 1990

Jamaica 1, 5, 10, 20, and 25 Cents 1969 to 1990

What a neat 25 cent coin! I like the design. The catalog says the bird with the long tail is a doctor bird, and Wikipedia reports 'The Doctor Bird (Trochilus polytmus) lives only in Jamaica and is one of the most outstanding of all the species of Humming Birds.'

Jamaica is famous for spiffy coin designs. These coins, the 1, 5, 10, 20, and 25 cent denominations, have all sorts of interesting designs on one side, and the common 'out of many one people' design on the other.

Since these coins are so modern and since they are made of non-precious metals such as bronze and copper-nickel, they are worth face value. If you happen to have a coin in fully uncirculated condition, a collector might pay a few US dollars to add it to his or her collection.
