If your coin were in really good shape, like our picture of an almost uncirculated specimen, it carries a little collector value. In average circulated condition, the value is about $1 or less. In general, regarless of date, values are:
worn: less than $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: $1
well preserved: $2
fully uncirculated: $6
There are three slightly better dates: 1937, 1946, and 1951. These might catalog as high as $2 when average circulated.
Coins with George VI run from 1937 to 1952, and coins with Elizabeth II run from 1953 to 1970.
