The Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes issued a series of nice-looking coins in 1925. Each coin bears the likeness of King Alexander I (1921 to 1934). The low denominations (50 para, 1 dinar, 2 dinara) were issued in nickel-bronze. The high denomination (20 dinara) was issued in 90 percent gold.
The beautiful gold coin in our picture comes from respected eBay seller bukostein in Slovenia. CoinQuest thanks bukostein for use of their photo. It is a nice one!
The low denomination coins are worth decent value as long as they are in good condition. Here are some typical catalog values:
50 PARA AND 1 DINAR COINS:
worn: less than $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: $1
well preserved: $3
fully uncirculated: $7
2 DINARA COINS:
worth about twice the values above
For the gold 20 dinara, the value is based on gold content plus collector demand. There are 0.187 troy ounces of gold in the 20 dinara coin, so multiply that number by the price of gold to get the gold value. At today's gold price, that is about $300 US dollars. Tomorrow the gold value will be different; it changes every day. Add value for collector demand, roughly as follows:
20 DINARA COINS:
worn: add $0 to gold value
well preserved: add $50 to gold value
fully uncirculated: add $150 to gold value
