Germany 5 and 10 Reichskreditkassen 1940 and 1941

The Third Reich issued several different kinds of pfennig coins. This page is for 5 and 10 reichspfennigs, also known as reichskreditkassen, with the swastika, eagle, and hole at the center. Two other types appear on other CoinQuest pages:

The reichskreditkassen, with a hole, was a military issue minted in zinc for circulation in occupied territories. These are valuable coins.

Look at the coin in the picture. It is in superb numismatic condition and is for sale by U. Helmig for 1250 euros (about $1800 US dollars). Its 1940J date and mint mark are good ones, but the coin derives most of its value from the pristine condition it is in. In more humble condition, the values of these coins go down substantially:

If you have a coin to sell, figure a coin dealer would pay about half the retail price to buy the coin from you. 100% mark-up margin is common for collectible coins.
