King Louis XVI of France issued small denomination coinage in bronze as part of the First Republic. These coins are dated from 1791 to 1793 and carry the king's portrait and a wreathed column. The coin in our picture comes from Kapaan & Mades in Marl, Germany, where it is on sale for 185 euros, about $230 US dollars. That is a decent price for such a well-preserved coin. The inquirer's coin sound like it has major problems (nicks, gouges, tainted eye appeal, cleaning) and will therefore be worth much, much less.
The listings below give very approximate catalog values for all dates of these coins. Use our Important Terminology page to learn how to properly interpret catalog values.
The three denominations, 3, 6, and 12 deniers, look alike, but size is different.
