The Teutonic Order of Knights (Deutscher Orden) was founded in 1198 during the Third Crusade. They conquered a lot of territory and started striking coins in the late 13th century. Today the Teutonic Order is a Roman Catholic religious organization.
The one kreuzer coin in our picture comes from Munzhandlung Hans Linnartz in Cologne, Germany, where it is on sale for 120 euros, about $150 US dollars. The coin is in nice shape and without the stains would sell for even more. CoinQuest thanks Hans Linnartz for use of his coin photo.
The catalogs quote the following values for this coin:
worn: $30 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $200
well preserved: $500
With Jay's description of 'amazing' condition, his coin may move toward the 'well preserved' value.
As always on CoinQuest, use the information on our Terminology page to convert catalog values to actual buy and sell values.
