Antiochus VII Euergetes, nicknamed Sidetes (from Side), ruler of the Hellenistic (Greek) Seleucid Empire, reigned from 138 to 129 BC. He was the last Seleucid king of any stature. His coins featured his profile and various Greek gods. The coin in our picture shows goddess Athena standing left, with god Nike in her right hand. Other reverses feature eagles, as shown in our secondary picture. Collecting the coins of Antiochus VII is a worthwile numismatic (coin collecting) goal.
Typical retail prices of these coins range from $200 for a pooly preserved specimen to $600 for a well preserved one, like the picture. One of our favorite web sites for ancient coins is VCoins where a search for Antiochus VII produces many examples with current prices. If you are selling your coin, expect dealers to pay one-half of retail. They need such mark-ups to keep their dealerships solvent.
CoinQuest thanks, once again, the experts at ForumAncientCoins for use of their coin image. It is a beauty! This coin comes from the collection of areich who has an extensive online description of his collection. Nice!
