Neat coin, Johnny. And silver, too.
These coins from Romania come in two denominations: 1 leu and 2 lei. Both have Carol (Charles, Karl) I on the front and the spinning girl on the back. These coins are old enough and scarce enough to pick up some value based on collector demand. They cannot be worth less than the value of their silver content. Here are some approximate catalog values:
1 LEU (0.134 troy ounces silver)
worn: $8 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $10
well preserved: $30
fully uncirculated: $70
2 LEI (0.268 troy ounces silver)
worn: $12 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $16
well preserved: $35
fully uncirculated: $90
Any coin with severe damage such as nicks, gouges or holes will be worth the silver value. Use a website such as Kitco.com to look up the current silver value, and multiply it by the amount of silver in the coin.
Use our Important Terminology page to adjust these catalog values toward actual buy and sell values.
